Elbagir’s achievements in journalism have been recognized with various awards, including the 2016 Thomson Foundation & Foreign Press Association Young Journalist Award for her in-depth reporting on the effects of United States sanctions against Sudan. In 2017, she was also named one of OkayAfrica’s 100 Women.
