Who is NBC reporter Stone Phillips?

Born Stone Stockton Phillips under the sign of Sagittarius on the 2nd of December 1954 in Texas City, Texas USA, of Scottish descent, Stone Phillips is a 63-year-old Caucasian TV reporter and correspondent. He is perhaps best known for being the former co-anchor of the TV newsmagazine entitled “Dateline NBC.” He has had a number of other positions across various TV stations throughout his career, having been active in the sometimes lucrative reporting business since 1986.

Early Life and Education

Stone was born into a family headed by his father Victor, a veteran of World War II, and his mother, a chemical engineer at Monsanto as well as a school teacher. He was actually raised in the Claymont section of Ballwin, Missouri, with his sister Minta and brother Victor III although their ages are unknown. Stone’s parents were the founding members of the congregation at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Ellisville, Missouri, which Stone attended as a young acolyte. As per his education, Stone attended Parkway West High School in his hometown, where he was an honor student as well as a quarterback on his school’s football team. Upon matriculating in 1973, he enrolled at Yale University and continued his streak of excellence in both mental and physical campus activities. In fact, he was the starting quarterback for the Yale Bulldogs team that won the Ivy League football championship in 1976. He was also a member of Yale’s secret society, called “Scroll and Key.” Additionally, he earned the F. Gordon Brown Award for outstanding academic and athletic leadership, and graduated with honors and a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1977.

Unable to find a job in the profession he was interested in, Stone first worked as a remedial reading and math teacher at the Fulton County Juvenile Detention Center, meanwhile also working at night as a waiter. Finally, he landed a reporting job at WXIA-TV in 1978, and two years later was hired by ABC News as an assignment editor for the Washington D.C. bureau. Another two years went by, and he was promoted to the on-air correspondent position, covering crises such as the Lebanon war and Rajiv Gandhi’s election after the assassination of his mother. In 1986, he obtained a regular presence in the ABC newsmagazine “20/20”, at the same time serving as a substitute host for “Good Morning America.” He remained there until 1992, when he joined NBC News as the co-anchor of “Dateline NBC,” where he got to interview some of the most notorious killers, such as Jeffrey Dahmer and Bernhard Goetz. He remained on this position until 2007. His career quieted down for a little bit, but Stone produced and hosted documentaries such as “Moving with Grace” for PBS, until he in 2012 he became a reporting contributor for PBS’ “NewsHour.”

Love Life

As for Stone’s romantic involvements, there isn’t much information surrounding this matter prior to his marriage, which was officiated at an unspecified date. He is married to Debra Del Toro-Phillips, a Puerto-Rican who had a career in fashion industry before returning to college to gain a master’s degree in social work. Together, they have a son named Streeter, who was born in 1988. They were also supposed to have a daughter, but she unfortunately passed away on the day that she was born, in August 1995. There hasn’t been any controversy surrounding Stone’s marriage.

His Award

Stone is the proud holder of an Emmy Award for Outstanding Interview, thanks to his skillful on-camera conversation with the said Bernhard Goetz, the murderer who shot four African-American teenagers in the New York City Subway. He also interviewed Lynndie England, a US army soldier who spoke about the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, concerning various alleged human rights violations committed by the US army and the CIA against the detainees of the said prison in Iraq.

According to various authoritative sources, it has been estimated that the current total of Stone’s accumulated wealth is close to $15 million, while his annual salary has not yet been revealed to the media; this figure has been largely aided by his numerous successes in the news industry, while the greatest contribution comes from his long-term screen presence as a crisis reporter and interviewer. As his career continues to develop, the said amount can be expected to increase.
