“Our deepest condolences and sincerest prayers go out to his family, friends, and fellow associates during this incredibly difficult time.” Hoover was previously named in the Hour Detroit Magazine as one of Detroit’s Top Neurological Surgeons in 2008.

The shooting has shocked the upscale neighborhood, and several of Hoover’s friends, family, and former patients have paid tribute to the lead physician on social media. One of his colleagues wrote on Facebook: ‘Rest in peace beautiful and kind soul. We will always miss you. You taught me to love Neurosurgery working by your side in the operating room.
Your patience was unmatched. Prayers for your family and all those who knew you. We are devastated to have lost you! May your legacy and love for surgery live forever in those touched by your presence in this world.’
“Last weekend, we lost a dear colleague,” added another colleague from Ascension Hospital. ‘A very talented doctor… a man no one can say anything bad about. He was a true gentleman. He was genuine and loved helping people.’
A former patient added in a separate post that Hoover was considered “the best” and “was not like most surgeons.” “He said he wouldn’t operate unless he absolutely had to,” he continued. ‘He is Always so wonderful, knowledgeable, and supportive. We are so devastated for his family, friends, and colleagues of his. May he rest in peace.’
“I am beyond disbelief how such a horrible tragedy could happen to such a gentle and brilliant soul,” said another. ‘God bless you, Dr. Hoover…I will never forget his kindness and respect.’
