A pair that had been on the run since 2020 on charges of murder and rape was apprehended this week in Mexico, according to officials. Araceli Medina and Edgar Salvador Casian-Garcia are now being held in a Mexican prison pending extradition to the US.
Following the discovery of two of Casian-biological Garcia’s daughters abandoned at a petrol station in Tijuana, Mexico, an inquiry into the suspected murderous pair was started. The girls were severely physically and sexually mistreated, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and they were originally from Pasco, Washington (NCMEC). The 8-year-old and 3-year-old sisters were placed in child protective custody.

The girls were brought to the attention of Washington-based investigators six months after their discovery in Mexico. Police determined the sisters also had a brother named Edgar Jr. as soon as they recognised the family name. The 7-year-old was missing when investigators went to the family’s residence, but Casian-Garcia and Medina allegedly claimed that the youngster was staying with his two sisters and their natural mother in California.
When detectives discovered that Medina and Casian-Garcia were lying, it was already too late because the pair had fled to Mexico with Medina’s four biological children and their infant son. Together with the other five children the parents had fled with, Edgar Jr. was instantly the target of a search by the NCMEC and the U.S. Marshals Service.
The couple was thought to have either remained in Mexico or eventually travelled to Canada, according to detectives. Weeks became months, months became years, and then there was a terrible break in the case. Hikers discovered human remains in February 2022, roughly 15 minutes from the couple’s Washington home. The remains belonged to Edgar Jr., according to dental records.
