Tony serves as a radio play-by-play announcer for WVU (West Virginia University) on Mountaineer Sports Network. He did, however, join WVU as a television play-by-play announcer and feature reporter in 1987.
Furthermore, his first WVU basketball game was in February 1988, when the Mountaineers lost to the Rhode Island Rams at Madison Square Garden in New York City. As a replacement for Jack Fleming, he began working as a radio play-by-play announcer for WVU in 1997.
Tony has been behind the microphone for some of West Virginia’s biggest successes, including Bowl Championship Series victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl, the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2006 Sugar Bowl, and the Clemson Tigers in the 2012 Orange Bowl.
He is the host of Sportsline on the West Virginia Radio Corporation’s MetroNews Radio Network. Tony also worked for WAJR-AM in Morgantown before joining the radio station in 1986 as a sports director for two years. He has also served as an announcer for Westwood One Radio Network on college football’s game of the week.
Tony has also aired nationwide on ESPN, Westwood Radio, and the Atlantic Ten and Big East television networks during his radio career. Furthermore, he has received honors such as West Virginia Sportscaster of the Year and Best Network Play-By-Play for Mountaineer Football from the WV Broadcasters Association.
