Suspect wanted in two Montreal homicides arrested in Ontario

MONTREAL — A suspect wanted in two murders in Montreal last year has been arrested in the Toronto area.

Officers from the Halton Regional Police arrested him on Thursday, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) said.

The suspect, a minor at the time, was wanted in connection with the 14th and 15th homicides of 2022 which occurred in the southwest of Montreal.

He appeared by videoconference before a judge of the Court of Quebec, for the Youth Division, Thursday afternoon. He will eventually be repatriated to Quebec for further proceedings, the SPVM said in a press release on Friday.

According to the elements reported by the SPVM, on July 28, 2022, in Montreal West, a call was made to 911 for gunshots and the sound of an accident. 

When the police arrived on the scene, they found that two occupants of a crashed vehicle had been hit by projectiles from a firearm. 

One of the two people died at the scene. The second was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The two victims were 17 and 18 years old respectively.
