Norma Hunt Was an American History Teacher
Born Norma Lynn Knobel on March 28, 1938, she is originally from Dallas, Texas. She was a teacher of American history at her alma mater, Richardson High School, and part-timed in the office of the Dallas Texans, the team that would later become the Kansas City Chiefs.
Lamar Hunt (born August 2, 1932) was the son of oil tycoon H.L. Hunt and founded the American Football League before it merged with the NFL. He had dated Rosemary Carr when they were teens, and after they graduated from Southern Methodist University together, the couple married in 1956.
Hunt and Carr divorced in 1962, reportedly due to the football mogul’s busy schedule. He soon moved on with Norma Knobel, who shared his love for sports.
Norma and Lamar Hunt Married in 1964
Lamar Hunt had a deep love for all sports, but especially football. Norma once recounted that during the early stages of their courtship, he took her to four different football games over the course of four days: one high school game, one professional game, and three college games.
Norma was a football fanatic as well, but after meeting Lamar, football became a pastime she enjoyed alongside her future husband and family. Their engagement was reported in the local media on January 15, 1964.
The following week, on January 22, 1964, Norma, then 25 years old, wed Lamar Hunt, then 31 years old, at her parents’ Richardson home. Hunt’s closest friend was the Chiefs’ then-coach Hank Stram.
Norma’s Son Is Chiefs CEO, Clark Hunt
Before getting divorced, Lamar and Rosemary had two children: Sharron Hunt (born October 20, 1956) and Lamar Jr. Two more sons, Clark (born February 19, 1965) and Daniel, were born to Lamar and Norma.
On December 13, 2006, Lamar Hunt passed away as a result of prostate cancer-related complications. He and Norma were wed up until his passing.
He created a big legacy in the NFL, which is still being carried on by Norma and his kids today. Particularly involved in the Hunt family’s sports enterprise are Lamar Jr. and Clark.
Clark is most known as the CEO and owner of the Chiefs organization, whilst Lamar Jr. is the president and owner of the Kansas City Mavericks hockey franchise. At NFL owners meetings, he represents the team and is in charge of managing the day-to-day operations.
Norma Hunt Is the Only Woman to Attend Every Super Bowl
Norma is not only a vital member of the Chiefs staff but also a member of NFL royalty. She is credited as being the only woman to ever do so; she has gone to every Super Bowl game since it was given that name in 1967.
Lamar Hunt had instructed his kids to make sure Norma attended the Super Bowl in 2007 while his health was failing in the weeks prior to the game. Lamar “couldn’t bear” for her to miss even one championship game, according to Norma. She attends Super Bowl games even after her husband passed away because she understands how important they were to him.
She is also committed to the family’s business endeavors in the sports industry. For individuals who share her passion for viniculture, she also developed Bidwell Creek Vineyard in California’s Napa Valley in 2000. As she used to take her husband on vacation to Tuscany, she developed an interest in vineyards.
Norma Hunt attended Super Bowl LIV this time with the squad that her son and husband established. And she gets to bring home the coveted trophy in her husband’s honor together with her kids and the Chiefs.
