nissan has taken an important step forward to popularize the electrification of transport, after announcing that it will be able to lower the price of their electric vehicles to that of current gasoline cars, thanks to a new production process.

As an example of this he presented the X-in-1 enginewhich shares and modularizes the core components of 100% electric motors and e-Power. nissan pretend reduce the size of the electrified motor by 10%as well as rlower costs of production in a 30% with the new “X-in-1”.

He ‘3-in-1’ enginemodularizes the components of a motor, an inverter and a reducer for electric vehicles, and the ‘5-in-1’ engine, modularize components of a motor, an inverter, a reducer, a generator and a booster for e-Power, respectively.

Sharing and modularizing core components improves production efficiency and reduces powertrain costs by approximately 30%. Thanks to that Nissan intends that its cars with the e-Power engine have a price equivalent to those of combustion by 2025and even that they are also equated electric prices in 2030. That is to say, five years before the law that will prohibit the sale of combustion cars.
Toshihiro Hirai, senior vice president of electric vehicle and motor development, recalled that “Nissan has introduced electric vehicles to the markets for a long time and has been listening carefully to users to evolve electrification technologies. The e-Power, created in 2016 using electric vehicle technology, is Nissan’s exclusive electrified powertrain that is driven by 100% electric motor, providing the same driving pleasure as a pure electric. For the ‘X-in-1’ motor that we are currently developing, the core components, a motor, an inverter, a reducer, a generator and a booster, are designed to allow mixed production for electric vehicles and e-Power models on the same production line. We make the most of the experience and knowledge that Nissan has gained while developing and producing electrified technologies. We will continue to create value thanks to our experience in electric vehicles, and we will deliver to the customer unique technologies of vehicles moved by electric motors such as the ‘e-4orce‘ and the ‘e-Pedal’.
2030 Nissan Ambition
If the Japanese firm meets the objective of equating the prices of its electric cars with those of combustion in 2030, it will facilitate the achievement of the strategy “2030 Nissan Ambition” with which it intends to expand its line of vehicles with 27 new modelsincluding 19 fully electric for that same year.

Bruno Mattucci, Managing Director Nissan, said: “We see a fully electrified future through two main technologies. The first is the fully electric vehicle with a lithium-ion battery, being Nissan the only brand that is already testing 100% solid-state lithium-ion batteries. With this technology we can, with the same size as a conventional battery, store 60% more energy, also significantly reducing costs. The second technology is e-Power, unique to Nissan. With it, driving is 100% electric, but the driver has a combustion engine dedicated solely to recharging the battery. This will facilitate access to electricity in those areas where the charging infrastructure is not sufficiently developed”.
