The former player of Villarreal CF and the Spanish team and current director of institutional relations for the club Mark Senna believes that the Andalusian Alex Baena will soon accompany paul torres in the calls of the national team absolute Spanish.
In a meeting with international media organized by LaLiga for the imminent centenary of the club, Senna pointed out that he hopes that soon he can make the leap from the sub 21where he has already played several games under the current head coach Luis de la Fuente and who can settle.
“Pau is already a regular, he can be considered a veteran, but also there is Alex Baena. Hopefully soon I can be summoned and stand out in the selection”pointed out the Spanish-Brazilian.
Senna pointed out that the Villarreal youth academy has the capacity to nurture the national team. “The national team has always had great footballers and now it’s no different but I think Villarreal has talent to incorporate players”, pointed.
Career with Spain
Senna reviewed his career with the national team, which included the 2006 World Cup in Germany and also the conquest of the 2008 Euro Cup, although he stressed that there have been other players from the club who have been important in the selection. “I was one of the pioneers but many have passed. I was one as were others like Santi Cazorla, Bruno Soriano, Joan Capdevila…”he remembered.
“They have won titles like the European Championship or the World Cup and it is a privilege. I am sure that with the work we do many more will go to the national team”he predicted.
Senna remembered that when the opportunity to play for Spain arose he was 29 years old “And it was the opportunity to play in a World Cup at a time when Brazil already had a team made up of (Carlos Alberto) Parreira. He invited me Luis Aragones And I didn’t think twice. I played the World Cup and then the European Championship that we won. The adaptation to Spain had been very fast, I felt at home and that’s why I accepted very quickly”he remembered.
