Fairmont Police have disclosed further details regarding a shooting incident that resulted in a fatality in Fairmont on Thursday morning.
According to a press release, the Fairmont Police received a report of a shooting incident in a vehicle at the Fairmont Hills Apartment on Cleveland Avenue shortly before 3 am on Thursday.
Upon reaching the site, the officers discovered the lifeless body of Clayton Peck, a 22-year-old resident of Frostburg, Maryland, who had sustained a gunshot wound and fallen over an embankment.
Police investigations revealed that Clayton Peck and Leo Ginty, an 18-year-old from Frostburg, traveled from Maryland to Fairmont, West Virginia, for the purpose of selling marijuana. The shooting occurred during a transaction at the complex, which resulted in Peck’s untimely death.
After the shooting, Leo Ginty was discovered driving the suspect vehicle on Cleveland Avenue with no other occupants, according to the police.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a significant quantity of marijuana and other evidence, which the officers confiscated. Following a thorough investigation of the crime scene, the police stated that Zeighshawn Meade, 18, was suspected of being the shooter, and he was later apprehended at a residence on the North Side.
As per the police, this was a deliberate and planned attack. Meade has been charged with first-degree murder, while Ginty has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.
The police have indicated that further charges and arrests are expected, and Clayton Peck’s body will be sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for an autopsy.
