While there, she concentrated on exposing waste and abuse and held the powerful accountable. Her investigations caused many policy changes focused on public safety and government spending. She exposed violations in the city’s asbestos policy that put many city workers at risk.
The investigation earned her initial Emmy in 2018. Before Austin, she worked in the Tri-Cities at WJHL as the 7 p.m. anchor and investigative reporter. At the time, she received 12 Tennessee Associated Press Broadcasters awards.
She attained the awards for Best Investigative Story, Best Enterprise Story, Best In-Depth Hard News Story, and Best Reporter in 2015. McGivern served KOMU 8 News in Columbia as a multimedia journalist, anchor, and producer.
