Her first foray into journalism occurred when she was 10 years old when she interviewed the hot dog vendor on the corner in front of her elementary school for a feature for her after-school program. But after graduating from Yale and landing an internship at The Dallas Morning News Washington Bureau in 1998, Julie secured her first legitimate job.
She received the Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Congress Reporting in 2009 for her coverage of the federal reaction to the 2008 financial crisis. Julie participated in Showtime’s fly-on-the-wall documentary “The Fourth Estate” in 2018, which focused on The New York Times’ coverage of Donald J. Trump’s first year in office.
