As a Multi-Media Journalist who joined ABC57 in December 2021, Julianne Grohowski is pleased to be covering the news in her hometown. She spent her childhood and adolescent years studying as a pre-professional dancer at Southold Dance Theater, where she played key parts in the Nutcracker at the Morris Performing Arts Center and other spring shows at Notre Dame’s Debartolo Performing Arts Center. Her passion for journalism began at John Adams High School when she wrote for the student-run newspaper ‘The Tower.’
She pursued a degree in Communication with a specialty in Electronic Media and a minor in Political Science at the University of Indianapolis, where she discovered her passion for both acting and journalism. She has had a lot of success while working at the Department of Communication, notably with the student-run television station UIndy TV. She joined the UIndy TV management team in 2020 as Director of Creative Services, later rising to the positions of Director of Programming and Executive Director of Broadcasting.
She has participated in more than one hundred productions that have aired on UIndy TV and its affiliated streaming networks. She enjoys sports reporting in addition to journalism! For the previous two seasons, she has sidelined practically every UIndy home basketball and football game, which is broadcast live on the Division II GLVC Sports Network.
She was pleased to be awarded the Grand Prize for her Video Feature Package, which she submitted to the National Broadcasters Society student competition in 2021. In the spring of 2021, she was elected President of the National Broadcasters Society branch at her institution.
She finished her internship at WISH-TV Indianapolis in the autumn of 2021, where she acquired important experience in a top 25 market while learning from and shadowing reporters, photographers, anchors, and producers regularly. Her most memorable internship event was when she proposed a story on an incident at her school, which was picked up by the news director and reporter and became a huge topic in the town.
She likes spending time with her family, friends, and three kittens at home in her spare time. She also enjoys going to the gym and doing weights daily! Julianne is a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan who enjoys watching (or attending) games during the season.
