He was a member of the team that received the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for exposing sexual harassment and abuse across sectors. In the year 2000, he began working at The Times as a reporter covering the media industries. Jim worked as a staff writer for The New York Observer, The New York Daily News, and The New York Post before joining The Times. He was also the editor of The Manhattan Spirit.

Jim began working as a gossip stringer for the New York Daily News after graduating from college in 1991. He eventually advanced to the position of general assignment reporter.
