Frank joined CBS’s golf coverage in 2015, replacing Peter Oosterhuis. Frank, like Oosterhuis, worked solely on the cable coverage of around half of CBS’s events while contributing to the network coverage of the other half, which included the Masters and PGA Championship. Frank will continue to host Live From on Golf Channel, but will no longer be able to fill in on NBC. At the 2015 Phoenix Open, he made his CBS debut.
He joined the Golf Channel’s studio coverage after retiring from tournament golf in 2003. At big competitions, Frank has been an important member of the Live From crew. He stood in for Peter Jacobsen on NBC’s golf coverage from 2012 through 2014 (NBC and Golf Channel are corporate siblings).
He serves as an ambassador for The House of Nobilo, a well-known winery in New Zealand established by Nikola Nobilo, a member of his family. He won the New Zealand Amateur at the age of 18 in 1978, making him the second-youngest winner of this tournament. Frank made his professional debut in November 1979. Frank’s first professional victory came on the PGA Tour of Australasia in 1982, when he won the New South Wales PGA Championship.
He joined the European Tour as a full-time player in 1985, after participating in select events in 1982 and 1983. The 1988 PLM Open (not to be confused with the KLM Open) was where Frank earned his maiden Tour victory. He went on to win four more European Tour tournaments and finish inside the top 50 on the Order of Merit every season from 1988 through 1996, with a best finish of 14th in 1993.
On October 9, 2007, it was revealed that Frank will be coming out of retirement and seeking to qualify on the United States PGA Tour through qualifying school. However, in a statement posted on the Golf Channel’s website, Frank rejected the report, saying, “I have not, nor did I have any intention of entering this year’s PGA Tour Qualifying school.”
