He is the only Chief Meteorologist in Oklahoma City with a Degree in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology, and the only one to hold the CBM seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society which is the highest level certification from the nation’s top association for Broadcast Meteorologists.
He was featured in the nationally televised ABC 20 / 20 primetime special, In An Instant, which was about the 2013 tornado outbreak that impacted Moore, Oklahoma. As he covered it live on air, the massive tornado struck his own neighborhood and destroyed many homes that were nearby. His wife ran to the shelter with the family dogs. This coverage of the tornado outbreak was nominated for an Emmy Award.
Before serving at KOCO-TV, Damon also served as their Chief Meteorologist at KTXS-Tv based in Abilene. While here, Lane forecasted severe weather on the southern edge of Tornado Alley. He was also named Abilene’s favorite Meteorologist for three consecutive years.
