However, the marriage did not work and the pair went on to divorce. She met her second husband Otto Kilcher when she was voluntering for Exxon Valdez oil spill disaster in southern Alaska. Charlotte and Otto fell in love and got married in 90 and she moved to the Kilcher homestead, where she had to adapt to a new and challenging way of life. She learned to grow her own food, tend to animals, survive the harsh winters, and deal with the dangers and conflicts that came with living on the frontier.
