River Plate traveled to Santiago del Estero to debut in the 2023 Argentine Cup. For the 32nd round (first round), they faced Racing de Córdoba, a second division team, at the Único Madre de Ciudades stadium. After 90 minutes, the victory with the prominence of Miguel Ángel Borja went to the Millionaire.
The Colombian returned to ownership -he was a substitute and did not enter against Arsenal at the weekend- and in the 45th minute opened the 3-0 win for the team led by Martín Demichelis. After River chained a series of passes in the opposite field, Borja appeared in the area to connect a cross from Elias Gómez and celebrate the first of the game.
It was his third official goal of the year, as he had already scored in the 2-1 win vs. Argentine Juniors in El Monumental and against Banfield in the tiebreaker of the Champions Trophy. It should be remembered that He also scored in the friendlies against Millonarios and Vasco da Gama played in January.
Lucas Beltrán and Leandro González Pírez rounded off River’s victory in his debut in this competition. The Racing de Córdoba goalkeeper, Leonardo Rodríguez, prevented the difference from being even greater and shortly after the end, the crossbar denied Borja the double.
After passing the first test in Copa Argentina, River Plate now focuses on what will be the match against Godoy Cruz, valid for the seventh day of the local league, which will be played at the Monumental stadium next Sunday, March 12.
